SMART INNOVATIONS FEATURED AT NAB CONVENTION: SMARTS BROADCAST SYSTEMS INTRODUCES DUAL COMPUTER AUTOMATION AND ADVANCES IN VOICE TRACKING

EMMETSBURG, IA - SMARTS Broadcast Systems will feature smart innovations in dual computer automation and advances in voice tracking in their exhibit at the National Association of Broadcasters' Convention in Las Vegas, April 23-26, 2001. Convention attendees will receive free copy of Simply Smart, a Windows-based simplified automation software, when they view a demonstration of SMARTS' products at booth #R3024.

The Dual Computer Smartcaster runs two computers simultaneously to deliver exceptional reliability and operator ease. SMARTS developers created this unit specifically for radio stations utilizing live-assist shows and satellite automation programming. According to John F. Schad III, senior programmer, the idea behind the Dual Computer Smartcaster is to combine "almost ten plus years of development and capabilities that are almost impossible to duplicate in Windows, plus Windows has a user-interface and internet network capabilities we wanted." This is accomplished with one computer geared specifically toward automation and music with a DOS program. The second computer in this unit functions as the operator's visual link in a Windows environment. "If you have a live, energetic morning program, this is a very powerful module for that application," states Schad.

A major feature upgrade for the Smartcaster G2000 is the advanced voice tracking feature. The advanced voice tracking allows operators to hear the last few seconds of adjacent music cuts, place a voice track, and transition to the next cut. An operator can produce a complete audio show easily in a considerably shorter amount of time. The advanced voice tracking supports up to three audio streams on the air simultaneously.

The Basic Smartcaster Systems will also exhibit a new screen design and user interface that makes complex automation processes easier to control.

SMARTS The Second Generation Billing, Accounting and Traffic Program, which runs entirely in a Windows environment, will also be demonstrated at the show. The program is the successor to the popular SMARTS Traffic System, which has been used by numerous radio stations since the early 1980s, and incorporates the vast experience gained from the earlier product. SMARTS The Second Generation is fully compatible with the Smartcaster, along with several other digital audio systems.

SMARTS will be demonstrating the entire family of products associated with the popular Smartcaster System, including the SmartTouch telephone interface; the Spider, an automatic internet transfer process that sends production audio to many stations with no human intervention; and digital editing in the Smartcaster Remote Record System.
