If you are not using co op, you are missing one of the best and most time saving portions of SMARTS.

- USE CO OP...

You may have noticed a new look in this month's newsletter.  The new format is to make it more interesting to the eye while catching the attention of the people who should be seeing the newsletter, mainly operators of the various systems.  Please see that this newsletter gets to the people who use the SMARTS Broadcast Systems'

SAVE REPORTS...

TRAINING DATE
CORRECTION...

Save reports to .TXT files at the end of the month…(Second Generation users).  We are suggesting that you save Big Reports and Aging Reports at the end of each month.  You can save them to a .txt file for future reference.  Because the reports in Second Generation are dynamic, entry of payments and other information affects the past.  To save a Big Report, run the report as usual, and then  click on Report/Save As, and follow standard Windows procedures.

ROTATIONS IN SECOND

Versions SG001130 and later offer three levels of cut rotation.  If you want all orders for an account treated as a unit, check on Account Level Rotation.  (Setup\Database\Account Setup\ALR)  If you want each order treated as a unit, check off Order Level Rotation as you enter the order.  (Orders\Entry\ Cuts\Order Level Rotation, or Orders\Grid\Cuts\Order Level Rotation)  If you want each invoice of an order to rotate as a unit, leave both ALR and OLR unchecked.

USE CO OP…

For Heaven's ake--use co op… We still find SMARTS operators, that for one reason or another, have not utilized the co op portion of the program.  If you are not using co op, you are missing one of the best and most time saving portions of SMARTS.  Full use of co op means entering an order as co op, typing in the script, and running both affidavits and tear sheets.  If you are not currently using co op, feel free to call the support line and find out how co op works.

USE CUT  E…

Way back in the dark ages of SMARTS--Version 7 (about 15 years ago) there was a limitation on using the letter E as a cut identifier.  That limitation was removed about 12 years ago.  Yes, you can use cut E,  just like any letter.  A trainee from Illinois - a brand new operator--had been cautioned not to use "E" by previous operators.  We reassured her, as we want to reassure any of you operating under this false assumption, that "E" is not prohibited.

MAKE COPIES...

SG users--If you want to use Excel, make a copy of the DB… Because SMARTS--the Second Generation is a database program, it is possible to export your database into Excel, or other spreadsheets.  However, there is a caution.  Please DO NOT use

your working copy of the database.  Make a COPY of the database, and export that to Excel.  SMARTS Support is not responsible for any operator manipulation of the database in another program.
