OPEN ACCOUNTS…. (V-7 USERS)

In Version 7 DOS SMARTS, the words OPEN ACCOUNT in the Account Name Field in Account Setup are a “stop signal” to the program. The Big Report will stop at the first account that has OPEN ACCOUNT in this field. So will the Aging Schedule. So will Sales Reports. You should never put the words OPEN ACCOUNT in anything other than your highest unused account number. This is a fairly frequent support situation. An operator will unknowingly put OPEN ACCOUNT in other accounts than the highest used number. If you are recycling account numbers, please use something like AVAILABLE, OPEN, or anything other than OPEN ACCOUNT.

SMARTCASTER ENGINEERING CLASS IN JULY…

Would you pass along to your station engineer that there is an engineering class coming up in July? It will be held here in the SMARTS main office in Emmetsburg Iowa on July 10-14. It is an intense, five-day class, designed to teach your engineer the technical aspects of running a SMARTCASTER.

GETTING PERMISSION DENIED...(Version 7 users)

If you are using the DOS version of SMARTS on a Windows computer, you will eventually have this happen. You will get a PERMISSION DENIED error. What has happened is that you accessed SMARTS, walked away from the computer, and Windows

placed SMARTS on your taskbar. If your task bar is hidden, you will come back to the computer, and SMARTS will appear to be “Gone.” Do not panic—but grab your task bar and you will see SMARTS on it. Click on the SMARTS button, and you will be back in business.

GENERAL UPDATE…(for SMARTS—the Second Generation users)

We will be issuing a general update in July, complete with a revised manual. We will notify you by E-mail when it is ready to download.

If you are not currently equipped to download from the Internet, we urge you to get equipped. This ability allows you to get updates, as well as send us your data for support help. You will need to be familiar with your e-mail program, and how to send attachments. This is a good skill to learn for SMARTS as well as other uses.

CLASS…

Thanks to the eleven people who came to Iowa for training on SMARTS Traffic and Billing software. We divided into two classes – one for Second Generation Windows users and one for the Version 7 DOS users. We ranged from beginning operators to people who had run SMARTS for several years. We enjoyed meeting everyone, and helping them increase their knowledge of SMARTS.

Our next office training class will be October 19 and 20 here in Iowa. Please consider coming.

Here in Iowa we are enjoying lilacs, tulips, flowering crab trees, dogwood and a few other things—Spring is most welcome!
