FALL TRAINING
If you are a new SMARTS operator, or don’t feel that you have ever been completely trained on the system, we offer our fall retraining class for SMARTS Office Traffic and Billing software. It will be held in our home offices in Emmetsburg, Iowa on October 14 and 15th. Sessions run from 9 am til 5 pm both days. Cost is $150.00 per person, and we ask that you register with a $50 pre-payment by October 1. A registration form is included with this newsletter.
SOMETIMES IT IS THE SIMPLE THINGS.
A Minnesota operator, fairly new to the station, was puzzled because two similar businesses were placed into the same break during log generation. When we dug into her data, we discovered that an auto parts store, assigned Product Code A, for Auto Parts, was logging next to a car dealer, assigned Product Code C for Car Dealer. To the new operator, this was a puzzle, because of the similarity of the two businesses. She could not have known that her predecessor entered them in this manner. Once we assigned the same Product Code to the two accounts, they no longer appeared next to each other.
If this has happened to you, it is a good idea to print out your account list by Product Code, and see how codes have been assigned.
HOW THE 99999’S GET THERE
If you have a SMARTCASTER, you are probably aware that 99999 is equal to an empty break. As your SMARTS log is transferred to the SMARTCASTER, an empty break appears on your SMARTCASTER breaklog as 99999’s. This is the signal to the SMARTCASTER to not take that break. Note that you do not see the 99999’s until the SMARTCASTER breaklog is created. The 99999’s do not show up on your printed program log. And you do NOT have to type in the 99999’s on your Master or Proof Log-the process is automatic.
WHEN YOU TRANSFER TO A NEW COMPUTER
If you are transferring SMARTS to a new computer, you may need some help from us. And if your new computer has a Pentium II processor, we need to send you a special file to make the menu structure work.
And remember that SMARTS requires its printer to be IBM Proprinter Emulation Mode capable.
HAVE A GREAT FALL!-Jan Schad
