Issue 62 SMARTS Broadcast Systems October 1999
OCTOBER TRAINING CLASS...
We look forward to seeing those of you who are coming to the October training class for SMARTS-Version 7, and for SMARTS-the Second Generation traffic and billing systems. If you are registered, you will be receiving a letter and an agenda shortly. The next training session for the office system is the third week in April.
IF YOU HAVE AN OWNERSHIP CHANGE....
If you station has been sold to new owners, sometimes the receivables stay with the old owners. Or other times the receivables are sold along with the station. If the receivables are to stay with the old owners, the best way to handle the situation in SMARTS is to create a separate subdirectory for the new owners. Copy over SMARTS, but do not bring forward balances from the previous month. This starts the new owners with zero balances. Then checks that come in for the new owners are posted to the correct account in the new subdirectory, and checks for the old owners are posted to the old subdirectory. If you are in this situation, give us a call for more specific directions.
DOUBLE THE CO OP DOES NOT DOUBLE THE 'FUN'...
There is a question as you are doing your logs -"DO YOU WANT TO POST CO OP?" A "Yes" answer will properly post your co op spots to the co op files. Then your affidavits and tear sheets run correctly. But a fairly frequent phone call from new operators is in this regard. "My co op is double (or triple) for the 22nd." The answer to the question is that the operator has nailed a log more than one time, and answered Yes to the co op question multiple times. The operator can fix the double posting by deleting a range of co op records. But the problem is best avoided by answering "No" to the co op question if you are re-doing a log.
WHEELS CAN MAKE IT EASIER...
I have visited several stations lately where the operator had not learned to use Wheels. If you are in that situation, you may find that a Wheel can make things easier for you. Wheels can be used for Special Events, importing your football sponsors, for example. In my sample data, I have created a Special Event for the E-Hawk Football game. I have created 5 breaks per hour, and tagged each break to play back two sponsors from the E-Hawk Sponsor Wheel. I can then use the same Wheel to go into the Saturday morning Coaches' show, which carries the same sponsors. If that sounds like something to make your life easier, call the Support Line for details.
Hope you have a great fall. I am spending this week in Dallas with my daughter, who had wisdom teeth removed. With the marvels of modem, fax, e-mail, E-fax and my laptop, I can work from here as well as from the office!
