LONG TERM BILLING...
One of our customers asked the meaning of the Stop Date in Long Term Billing. We explained that the Stop Date is for the purpose of notifying the operator when a Long Term billed account will stop. It does not automatically remove the account from the billing, but alerts the operator to notify the salesperson. If you are using this option, you should do your projection by account on an individual basis, rather than using the mass projection option in Miscellaneous.
TELEPHONE TRAINING...
Several months ago we mentioned in the Newsletter that we are offering telephone training to SMARTS operators to help with their learning curve. The cost to you is $80 per hour, with a minimum of one hour. We have done several of these sessions, and have had good results. Basically, we get on the phone with you, and go through each option of the program, explaining each one, and answering questions.
If you are a new operator, you might consider this option as a means of improving your knowledge of SMARTS. We still offer onsite training, training here in Iowa, and the two annual training classes. The advantage of the phone training is that we can usually schedule it within a week.
ROTATIONS...
An operator was wondering about the Rotation patterns, and how you could see what cut was going to be logged next. If you look on the Rotation pattern screen, you will see that there is a three digit number that indicates which cut will be logged next time you run a log. Take a look. If necessary the number can be changed. However, do not EVER set it to zero. This will cause your log to error out. It is an infrequent support question, but does come up occasionally.
MANUALS...
We hope you have your SMARTS manual at hand, and are using it. And, after a support call, you can make notes in your manual. Your notes might help a new operator later on. If you have lost your manual, you can order a replacement for $25.00 plus shipping. If you station does not have a manual, you might want to consider getting one.
UPGRADING WINDOWS-NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART...
SMARTS does not enter into the upgrading of Windows, but we do observe that you need a qualified person to do it for you. If you have Windows 3.1 and want to upgrade to Windows 95 or 98, make sure the person doing it knows what he is doing. Do not let someone experiment on your office machine. That happened to one of our stations in December, the worst possible time, and we mention it to benefit the rest of our stations.
