IF YOU'RE BUYING A WINDOWS 95 COMPUTER, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LEGAL COPY...

We have run into several situations lately where a station has purchased an office computer from someone locally. The computer dealer used his own software, and did not provide the station with its own legal copy of Windows software. This puts the station in a situation of not being able to re-install Windows if necessary, because they do not have the original software. If you are in that situation, we suggest you contact your vendor for legal Windows software, and make sure you have it on hand at the station.

In the future, SMARTS will be asking the question "Do you have a legal, licensed copy of Windows?" before we install SMARTS on your computer.

WHAT PRINTER DO I NEED?

There are two answers to this question. If you are using the current release DOS Version 7 of SMARTS, you need to have an IBM Proprinter Emulation Mode printer. This does not mean that your printer has to be an IBM brand. Many printers have two standards – IBM and Epson.

If you are using SMARTS -The Second Generation Windows software, to the best of our knowledge any printer that works with Windows will work fine for SMARTS. A laser printer makes a very nice looking report, log , or bill. However, some of the older printers also seem to work okay. If you have any questions when you go to buy a printer, please give us a call.

SMARTS - The Second Generation

Evaluation copies of the new SMARTS - The Second Generation software are now available. The evaluation copy is a fully working copy of the software, but limited to 10 accounts. If you are interested in the Windows software and would like to receive an evaluation copy of the software, please let us know.

SUPPORT FOR VERSION 7'S:

We will continue to support the current DOS SMARTS Version 7 programs until Dec. 31, 1999. Our choice of cut off date has nothing to do with the year 2000. To the best of our knowledge, the V-7's are fully 2000 compatible. We built that feature in from the first. Our reason for the cut off date is that we lose our knowledge on an old version of software as we move into a new one. We will always answer a question to the best of our knowledge, but time and turnover will cause us to lose our edge on an old version. We will not do any further changes or development on the DOS software.

HAVE A GREAT FALL. AND REMEMBER, WE HAVE OUR SMARTS OFFICE TRAINING SESSION HERE IN EMMETSBURG OCTOBER 15th AND 16th.
