SMARTCASTER NEWS
Issue 50 SMARTS Broadcast Systems October 1998
Ah, Fall. Farmers in the fields, leaves changing colors, cool nights. Rakes becoming the popular lawn tool, mosquitos wearing winter coats, and the sun setting way too soon. We love fall. We hate fall. Obviously, I am of two minds on the subject. I know I will miss summer.

One other mention. This is our 50th newsletter! We have enjoyed bringing you information in this form for over four years. Enjoy!

AFTER-HOURS POLICY

SMARTS Broadcast Systems has always offered 24-hour emergency support for customers on support whose systems fail to operate. However, more and more, we find stations calling in for support that are performing extensive engineering changes after-hours and on weekends. This causes the after-hours Support personnel to have to delay support to stations with real off-air emergencies. To reduce the problems associated with this, we are again stating to our customers that normal support hours are 08:00 to 17:00 CST Monday through Friday excluding major holidays. Off-air emergencies are handled anytime, 24-hours-a-day. If a station requires after-hours engineering support, you must make an appointment 48 to 72 hours in advance. Your station will be billed at a rate of $80.00 per hour, minimum of one hour, for this support. This is to cover the costs associated with laying on an additional engineer for the express purpose of supporting you. Remember, the goal is to have Support person there quickly to help you when a failure occurs. Thanks.

FILTERS

Those of you with the newer rack-mounted systems, remember to clean the filter monthly. You can do this by opening the door on the front of the computer, reaching to the left and pulling on the rightmost edge of the filter. Beating the dust from it and replacing it in the computer can clean this. Every other month, you should use the replacement filter while you thoroughly clean the permanent filter. Washing the filter in soapy water can do a thorough cleaning. BE SURE TO LET IT DRY COMPLETELY BEFORE PUTTING IT BACK IN THE COMPUTER.

CLASS

Here's something for the station engineer. SMARTS Broadcast Systems will hold a SMARTCASTER Certification class the first week in November. Dates are set for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, November 4, 5, and 6, here at our home office in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

The class will train engineers to install and maintain SMARTCASTERS. A certificate of achievement will be given to each engineer who successfully completes the class. The certificate will state that he or she is qualified to install SMARTCASTERS.

The cost for the three-day class is $150 per person. Each attendee is responsible for his own expenses. Registration forms were included in the September newsletter. Please call Jan Schad at SMARTS – 800-747-6278, x 203, for class details. Hope you enjoy the Fall!
