Issue 35 SMARTS Broadcast Systems July 1997
Hi,
It's time for your monthly break where you have a reason to put your
feet up and relax while reading some important information. In your hectic
schedule, it's the only chance you get, so take advantage while you can.
I have several important things to pass along in this issue. First,
we are moving away from the use of 5 ¼ inch floppies. That is the
politically correct way of saying that we will no longer send out new
versions of software on 5 ¼ disks. Those floppy drives are hard to come
by now, and the disks don't hold as much information. If you are still
using the bigger floppy drives; you should consider replacing it. You
have our permission to buy the 3 ½ floppy drive locally and have it
installed by a local expert.
Second, you should check out our Web Site. You will find us at
http://www.ncn.net/smarts.
Make it a daily occurrence because of all the changes we are adding
to it. F'rinstance, check the Technical Forum. You can ask questions
of an informative non-critical nature and find the answer there later.
You can also check on some of our latest products like the Live Show,
Touch Screen, Spider, and Dial-Up Weather. Your SMARTCASTER has been a
useful tool to your station, now it has new features available that can
increase your revenue or assist your team. Check out the features on the
Web.
If you are already using E-mail, would you send us your E-mail
address? We will use it to send you important information on a timely
basis. Our E-mail address is: support@smartsbroadcast.com.
For those of you who aren't on the Internet yet, do you remember
how we wrestled with the idea of getting a fax machine? Now almost
every station has one and couldn't live without it. The same is going
to be true of the Internet. Talk to your local provider and see about
coming on board. In this day and age, we have to be in contact with
our clients and listeners. Let them know your E-mail address and then
sit back and watch the response.
'Tis the lightning season again. Are
you protected? Are you insured? Protect your SMARTCASTER equipment by
having Isobars installed and by using an Unintterruptable Power Supply.
These are reasonably inexpensive and can be picked up locally. Make
sure that they have three prong electrical cords and that you use them.
Don't use cheater plugs or snip off the third prong.
Also, if your station gets hit by lightning, call your Insurance
Agent first, then your Engineer and us. It is very important that your
insurance agent be very involved in your recovery from a lightning
strike.
We have a SMARTCASTER training session coming up on July 17th and
18th. The cost is $150 per person for the two-day event. There is a
$50 non-refundable fee required for registration two weeks prior to
the session. The seminar is a chance to refresh what you already know,
learn some of our tips and tricks, and rub elbows with other operators
while picking up on some of their techniques. The attendees are responsible
for their own meals, lodging, and travel expenses. Credit cards are
accepted.
And here is your reminder to OPTIMIZE your system on a regular basis.
Take a few minutes to use List/Delete to clean out any outdated commercials
first. These two steps will make your unit run more efficiently.
