Issue 35 SMARTS Broadcast Systems JULY 1997
EXPLANATION OF REVENUE TYPES...
A fairly new operator at an Iowa station called this month to ask how she could get a list of Trade accounts. When I told her to print by Revenue Type E, it was new territory for her. So I thought a review of the Revenue types might be helpful.
There are five Revenue types. You enter a Revenue Type for each account in Account Headers. Your station made a decision as to Revenue type assignments at the time of setup. A typical situation is A=Local accounts, B=county or regional accounts, C=agency accounts, D=Political, and E=Trade. A-B-C-D may carry any designation, but represent Cash business. E is designated for Trade.
You may find that your station is set up for all Cash business in A. This is okay, but it denies you the opportunity to run your various reports by category.
You can find out how your Revenue types are set up by running a list in Alpha or Numeric customer lists, by Revenue types.
Call us if this option in SMARTS is new to you.
TRAINING CLASS COMMENTS...
Some of the comments from our recent training class include:
"I learned how to organize the log and billing in a simpler fashion."
"I learned how to apply and access the different options on SMARTS."
"...more confident in Master Log and Backups."
Our next class is October 16th and 17th, and we'd love to have you join us. You might pass along to your SMARTCASTER operators that we will be holding a SMARTCASTER training class July 17th and 18th here in Emmetsburg.
INTERNET...
Are you familiar with the Internet yet? One of the things we will be doing after the Windows version of SMARTS is released is to have a user group exchange on our Home Page. In other words, you will be able to access the Home Page, click on the SMARTS Newsgroup option, and register a question or comment, to which we will respond.
This feature is not yet in place, but you are invited to visit the SMARTS Home Page and view other features. Our Home Page is
http//www.ncn.net/smarts.
We are moving toward an E-mail support contact, but we aren't quite there yet. You are welcome to E-mail me at janschad@ncn.net, Debbie at sdsmarts@sd.cybernex.net, and Connie at smartcon@the-bridge.net
BUT DON'T RELY ON E-MAIL FOR CRITICAL SUPPORT QUESTIONS. YOU STILL MUST CALL ON THE SUPPORT LINE.
The reason is that all of us travel, and you might wait a week for us to get back and answer your E-mail.
We would also like to add your E-mail address and radio station Home Page to our database, if you have them. Enclosed is a form to fill out for that and other information.
Hope you're having a good summer, and staying out of the way of floods, storms and lightning.
