Issue 36 SMARTS Broadcatst Systems August 1997
PLAN AHEAD FOR OCTOBER TRAINING SESSION...
Our next SMARTS Office training session will be held October 16 and 17, 1997, in Emmetsburg. We
will train on the Version 7 current version of SMARTS and also give you a detailed overview of the Windows version of SMARTS.
POSTING OPTIONS EXPLAINED...
A new operator recently asked us about the Posting Options of “Bill All in Current Month, or Bill All in Next Month”. These two options are designed to handle an order that may start right at the end of the month, and runs into the next month, or the reverse – the order runs mostly in the current month, with only a few days going into the next month. If you use “Bill All in Current Month”, the order will be billed in the first month, but scheduled into the second month. If you use “Bill All Next Month" you may schedule your order starting this month, and it will Be billed when the majority of the schedule runs next month.
IF YOU REPLACE YOUR OFFICE COMPUTER WITH A WINDOWS 95 COMPUTER...
Several of our office customers have upgraded SMARTCASTER to networked systems. It then became advisable to also upgrade the office computer to a Windows 95 computer. If you are in this situation, we recommend that you purchase a copy of LANtastic 7 software for the office machine, and a 3 Com Brand Model Etherlink 3, number 3C509 card to go into the office system. If you attempt to use an older card, you may run into difficulties.
NON-COMMERCIAL MASTER ENTRIES...
If you elect to use the Master file Non commercial entry to insert numbers, beware of inadvertently substituting the letter O for a zero. It will cause you to error out on initializing a log.
BREAKS PAST MIDNIGHT...
If you are entering the last break of the day into Stopset Break
Management, be sure that the length of your break does not go beyond the line for 11:59 pm. For instance, if you enter a 6 unit break starting at 11:55 pm, your break is too long to fit in that day’s log. You will get an error when you create a breaklog.
SMARTS BREAKS VS. SMARTCASTER BREAKS...
If you are transferring your log to a SMARTCASTER, make sure that the breaks on your logs are numbered properly for the SMARTCASTER. The SMARTCASTER allows 12 breaks per hour. Your SMARTS office system must correspond to those breaks. If you use a break that is assigned to another hour, your log will not transfer properly to the SMARTCASTER. Breaks will be doubled or skipped. If you want to check your break numbers, you will find a chart of breaks in the SMARTCASTER.
AVAIL LIST – ARE YOU USING IT?
Let us know how you like the Avail list, found on the last option of the Orders pull down menu. It is a new feature on the Version 7’s.
HAVE A GREAT AUGUST....
