Synopsis
Of
Mice and Men is a classic theater piece, written by well-known
author, John Steinbeck. This play follows the tragic story of two
migrant workers, George and Lennie. They have just arrived at a ranch
to work up a stake to help pay for the little place they hope to buy,
where they can “live off the fat of the land.” Lennie is a dangerously
powerful man with a mind of a child, and it is George’s reluctant,
though caring job, to take care of Lennie and keep him out of trouble.
It’s a
slice of American life of the 30s. Steinbeck holds a mirror up to this
society and lets the audience see and judge for themselves the men and
women of this time and place. The theme is hope and love and
loneliness—a great character study for the cast and director.
EMST doesn’t do a lot of serious theater, but feels you will appreciate
the change of pace. |
